PARALLEL LANDSCAPES

The Creative Hybridization Between Photography and Artificial Intelligence as an Exploration of Possible Futures

In an era of profound technological and environmental transformation, "Parallel Landscapes" emerges as an innovative expressive paradigm that merges the tradition of photography with the revolutionary potentials of generative art and artificial intelligence.

Starting from a photographic base — a “visual palette” from which forms and landscapes emerge — the project uses AI as a brush capable of transfiguring reality into other, parallel worlds where temporal and geographical dimensions are redefined. Here, photography ceases to be merely a document or testimony and becomes a fluid, recombinable material, a tool of imagination and reflection.

Traditional photographic art, with its fixed nature and its definitive capture of a moment, opens itself to the dynamism and unpredictability intrinsic to generative art. Artificial intelligence, understood both as a prompt and as a set of technical and algorithmic parameters, grants the artistic creation a measure of unpredictability and uniqueness that does not limit but rather enhances human creativity. In this collaboration between human and machine, each image becomes an unrepeatable experience, a new vision that transcends mere reproduction to embrace transformation.

The theme underpinning "Parallel Landscapes" — a world altered by rising seas and climate change — becomes a powerful narrative and metaphorical device. The choice of universally recognizable locations allows the viewer to confront a possible yet familiar future, where humanity’s adaptation and resilience are measured against indifference and necessity.

The project has received important recognition, winning the Photolux Intarget AI Awards 2024 in the A.I. Artificial Intelligence category, being exhibited at the Lodi Festival of Ethical Photography within the Circuito Off, and receiving an Honorable Mention at the International Photography Awards (IPA) 2025, Special – AI Generated Images. These acknowledgments underscore its critical and artistic relevance in the contemporary landscape.

Parallel Landscapes thus stands as an ideal bridge between the evocative stability of photography and the experimental fluidity of generative art, embodying a new form of contemporary expression that reflects the tensions and hopes of an era of global change.
