PARALLEL LANDSCAPES – Chapter Two

Photographic imagination as a language of change

With “Chapter Two”, the Parallel Landscapes project continues its visionary journey through photography and artificial intelligence, affirming its fluid, multi-layered, and ever-evolving nature. While the first series laid the foundations of an alternate world shaped by rising waters and climate change, this new sequence expands its visual, emotional, and conceptual scope.

The increased use of color, compared to the black and white of the earlier works, draws the viewer deeper into imaginary landscapes where catastrophe and everyday life coexist. There is an evolution in perspective, a broadening of the gaze: alongside dramatically charged scenarios, we encounter visions that suggest a new form of normality — an existential normality that humanity might develop in order to adapt to a permanently altered landscape.

In this second chapter, the tension between photography and AI becomes more pronounced and self-aware. The machine is no longer just a tool for transformation, but an active interlocutor in the artist’s imagination: a collaborator in generating images that do not exist in reality but could very well belong to our near future.

The project stands as one of the clearest artistic explorations of the expressive potential of artificial intelligence, underscored by the recognition it has received: winner of the Photolux Intarget AI Awards 2024 in the A.I. Artificial Intelligence category, and exhibited at the Lodi Festival of Ethical Photography, within the Circuito Off.

“Parallel Landscapes – Chapter Two” marks a new segment in an expanding universe, where the photographic vision no longer documents the present, but reinvents it — constructing possible worlds that invite us to reflect on our responsibilities, our fears, and our capacity to imagine the unknown.
